I was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas where I developed a love for horses, other animals and the outdoors. The spectacular sunsets and beautiful wide open spaces instilled a love of art in me at a very young age.
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and an Associates Degree in Photography from the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, Colorado. I am a realistic artist who paints mainly in oils. I have a passion for the outdoors and animals which is reflected in my paintings. I vary my subject matter but often paint Southwestern and Western scenes. I enjoy painting commissioned pieces of clients' dogs and other pets. My photography background has helped to enhance my painting skills. Not only has it helped me to see and compose scenes better, I am able to gather useful information in my photographs and take this back to the studio. I then create a painting using numerous photographs as reference material.
I have shown in numerous juried art association shows in Amarillo, Midland, Odessa , San Angelo , and Kerville, Texas. I have also shown in Angel Fire, Las Cruses, and Ruidoso, New Mexico and Estes Park, Co. I was voted in to become a "Signature Member of the American Plains Artists" in 2007 and was selected as the "Distinguished Artist" for the 2014 Celebration of the Arts show in Midland, Texas.
My artwork can be seen by appointment only at my studio. Please contact me at roushca1@gmail.com or (432) 413-2429 to set up an appointment. I am now also represented by Callender's Gallery and Framing, located at 2613 Loop 250 Frontage Road in Midland, Texas. I also teach art classes on oil painting.
